Americans watching more videos online

You might feel like you're constantly on YouTube but new research may be reassuring in that you're absolutely not alone.

A study from the Pew Institute reveals that 62 percent of American adults, over the age of 18 watch videos online and this figure is twice as large as it was in 2006.

Since 63 percent of Americans have faster broadband internet access, it is much easier for them to watch videos online and a third of internet users watch TV and video over the web.

This survey was conducted in April of this year and it further found that 9 out of 10 adults watch videos online, marking a 72 percent increase from last year's figures.

Older Americans still prefer to watch TV on the set, for 41 percent of those aged between 50 and 64 said that they watch videos online. However, 27 percent of the over 65 crowd watch videos online and this has increased from only 19 percent who responded as such last year.

Interestingly, 22 percent of adults in the U.S. say that they have reduced the channels and size of their cable TV or broadband packages during the past 12 months. ADNFCR-2087-ID-19292475-ADNFCR

Kid Rock officially hates Twitter

Poor Twitter. First, the social networking page is barely recognized by the American population and now its publicly ridiculed by Kid Rock.

Media sources reveal that the musician went on quite the rant in a Rolling Stone magazine article about the social networking site that lets users express themselves in 140 characters or less.

He reportedly said, 'It's gay. If one more person asks me if I have a Twitter, I'm going to tell them, 'Twitter this [expletive], mother[expletive].'

Consequently, his remarks have put him out of favor with gay and lesbian publications including gaysocialites.com that named him their least favorite person of the week. The author felt his remarks were homophobic.

On the other hand, U2 have nothing but love for Twitter and they displayed this sentiment while kicking off their recent tour.

They joined the Twitter community with the username @U2_360Tour and constantly tweeted photographs of themselves, their tour vans and surroundings to give fans a privileged insight into their life on the road.

The Twitter-friendly band plan to hit the states in September, starting off their tour in Chicago. ADNFCR-2087-ID-19292474-ADNFCR

The golden generation tries online dating

If you thought Match.com was only for you and maybe your older siblings, think again because you might run into your grandma's profile if you're (un)lucky.

According to recent news articles, the over 50 set are not only browsing the web but as the Washington Post found that by 2007, those over the age of 50 were the largest growing online dating group.

Bet you wish you hadn't taught grandpa the ins and outs of the internet.

Joe Tracy who edits an online dating magazine tells United Press International that seniors are 'seeing their sons and daughters use online dating and have success with it.'

No matter the age, it seems that everyone's pursuing love and companionship. Tracy concludes 'we've been seeing online dating services really target the senior citizens and baby-boomer market' meaning finding true love online isn't just for spry young things any longer.

Some of the older online daters are focusing on specialty sites such as JDate.com that caters to Jewish singles, the Washington Post reports.

Simialrly, AARP representative, Nataki Clarke explains that seniors want to get connected through sites that cater to them, such as the AARP page. As a result, they are redesigning the webpage to make it more social-network friendly, the news provider reveals. ADNFCR-2087-ID-19292473-ADNFCR

MLB embraces Twitter, will allow fan commentary

Ever think you and your friends commentary during the baseball game on television is so much better than the sportcasters on television? MLB.com is now giving you a chance to prove it in 140 characters or less.

The official website of major league baseball will be using the micro-social networking site Twitter with MLB.tv and MLB.com during live games.

This means the site will be generating content from people who may not even be using MLB.com to watch or listen to the game. Fans can send their tweets, which will be posted with messages from the team's official Twitter account.

It remains to be seen what kind of fan commentary will emerge from this new implementation of the innovative communication service.

According to BizofBaseball.com, the new service will be featured alongside the real-time game updates featured on the site and will be a rolling list of tweets from users and, presumably, people behind the scenes.

So far, the strategy appears to be generating a favorable reaction. Twitter user animerat recently tweeted about it and wrote, 'I like the fact MLB.com has integrated twitter into the games. I hope the NHL and other sports do the same with their feeds.'ADNFCR-2087-ID-19291399-ADNFCR

SweetLuck.com to make online dating free again

For lonely hearts everywhere, finding that special someone may only be a few mouse clicks away. Unfortunately, many sites charge high fees keeping the lonely rather solitary.

However, a new site, SweetLuck.com launches today and proposes to offer its matchmaking services for free. It also describes itself as more of a social networking site, rather than a straight-up dating page, uniting singles based upon their energy.

The users believe this leads to more successful matches.

CEO and founder Martin Encarnacion believes that the online dating scene needs more sites to be offered for free and that SweetLuck will be filling a niche.

In addition, SweetLuck's concept taps into the idea that people want a partner 'who energizes us and makes us feel alive.'

He firmly feels this is possible, explaining SweetLuck's matching system ensures 'that the person you are matched up with online will also be compatible with you offline, dramatically cutting down on dating fatigue.'

However, considering there are so many dating sites out there, it seems that single people have very specific needs, wants and interpretations of energy. Whether SweetLuck can compete with BabesandBillionaires.com will be determined in the coming months. ADNFCR-2087-ID-19290448-ADNFCR
