Ad-free Twitter manages to promote Mad Men

Fans of the AMC series Mad Men have probably seen the MadMenYourself.com where users can generate their own avatar resembling characters on the hit show.

Media sources reveal that Twitter was suddenly peppered with the renderings, giving the channel and the show a bunch of free advertising despite the fact that Twitter is sans advertisements.

Reportedly, last summer's trend was to have an avatar inspired by a manga character or fake high school photograph. Now, people are turning themselves into Mad Men characters.

Users who want to Mad Men themselves visit the site and select a range of physical attributes to customize the figures. The technology blog Mashable criticizes the page's long loading time but comments that the program is 'doing a brilliant job of inspiring Mad Men fans to switch their Twitter avatars and not-so-subtly promote the upcoming new season.'

However, Adweek observes that this site's developers were not the first to slide advertisements into a fun tool for social media users.

Arik Fraimovich reportedly created Twcauses that let users generate avatars that best reflected their social and political vie
