New careers found through social networking

An ex-Wall Street Journal blogger landed her new position through hitting up Twitter and the website, Jewish Jobs, rather than stick to conventional routes to find jobs, such as simply scouring newspaper classified ads.

Joking that she can no longer contribute to the news provider's 'laid off' blog, Rachel Levy explains that her new employer both followed her on Twitter and also found her resume on the aforementioned website.

Levy speculates 'I’m guessing that seeing me in multiple places made her more interested in contacting me because she knew more about me,' because shortly after this connection was forged, the contact passed her name to Generation Equity which lead to her marketing position with Second Time Around.

The company by which Levy was hired is a chain of consignment stores that are focused on designer brands and offers 40 percent to sellers once their items have been purchased.

The unemployment rate for June 2009 hit 9.5 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed, pretty much indicating that a massive amount of people has been laid off or had simply lost their jobs due to the rough economy.ADNFCR-2087-ID-19299141-ADNFCR
