Facebox and Twit 360

Microsoft's video game console will eventually work with social media supersites Facebook and Twitter, but they're not letting just anyone play.

The Xbox 360 is finally going to be affordable, according to ArsTechnica.com. More than that, Microsoft has announced 360 will offer both a Twitter and Facebook feature. Unfortunately, there'll be no zhlobs allowed.

'Xbox Live Gold Membership will be required for Twitter and Facebook when they are available,' says Microsoft.

Ars Technica wonders why Microsoft would require users to pay for services they can get for free on their PCs. Apparently, MS's strategy is simple: get people to become Gold members; doesn't matter how.

Starting August 28, the 120GB Xbox 360 will cost $299.99. The 60GB version will be $249.99. The Facebook and Twitter features are expected to arrive this fall.

The Xbox will also integrate Netflix and Last.FM. Gold membership will be required for these features as well. Another development Microsoft recently announced was its video service called Zune Video. Zune will feature 1080p video and Microsoft says there will be no load time.
