A Finnish communications corporation wants its products to help people stay connected via Facebook on their smartphones.
Nokia recently announced its partnership with social networking supersite Facebook, which will operate under Ovi ('door' in Finnish), Nokia's internet services brand. Lifecasting with Ovi will allow Facebookers to publish their location and status updates directly from the home screen of their devices.
'Nokia aims at reaching the many, not the few, with our rich portfolio of services. We are doing this through an increasing number of open partnerships with world leaders in many fields,' said Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo.
Lifecasting will appear first on Nokia's new N97 mini. Jonas Geust, the vice president of the Nokia N series, said the consumer wants to better connect his or her physical and online worlds and the new Ovi app can help do this.
According to Facebook, the website has more than 250 million users, 120 million of whom log on at least once a day. FB's fastest growing demographic is the 35 and over group. The N97 mini will cost 450 before taxes and subsidies.
