3Away, a division of the management consulting company ClairadonWhite, has released Social Networking for Job Seekers, an online seminar on how to leverage social networks like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn and all those other ones to connect with hiring managers more quickly.
'The days of throwing a resume onto a company's job board are gone, as employers are overwhelmed with resumes from very qualified people,' said David Moyer, managing director of 3Away. 'The new paradigm is finding someone you know inside a company who can help you get to the hiring manager directly.'
The Bureau of Labor Statistics recently said that the unemployment rate in the U.S. was at 9.7 percent, which translates into 15 million people out of work. That's made finding a job a bit more difficult than it was five years ago.
Unfortunately the webinar isn't free. It'll cost you $75, which is sort of a lot, especially if you don't have a job and you're paying for an internet connection. Then again, it could teach you how to make the right contacts. And as goes the old cliché, it's not what you know it's who you know.
